In the spring of 1982, the President of Argentina declared his intention to take control of the Falkland Islands and South Georgia, claiming Argentinian sovereignty over them. A full-scale military operation was launched by the British to retake them, codenamed ‘Operation Corporate’, which saw half the British troops advance 56 miles through difficult terrain by foot. The ‘yomp’, Royal Marines slang for a long-distance march carrying full equipment and kit, ended with their arrival at Port Stanley on 14th June 1982 and the surrender of the Argentinian forces on the same day.

Now, more than 40 years since the Falklands War, and as a tribute to those who fought to defend the Islands, Danbury Mint is proud to present…the Yomp to Stanley Coin Sculpture.

  • With expert advice from a military historian, our sculptor has created a masterful sculpture of a British troop on his ‘yomp’ across the Falklands Islands. Every detail is there for you to admire. You’ll see the perfectly shaped beret, brimming bergen, and much more!
  • The impressive sculpture stands upon an elegant wooden plinth, set against a striking glass backdrop etched with an image of the barren landscape of the island. It’s engraved with the words of Major-General Sir Jeremy Moore: ‘The Falkland Islands are once more under the government desired by their inhabitants. God Save the Queen’.
  • Three exclusive commemorative medals. Each represents a different branch of the Armed Services, and the reverse features key events from the conflict relating to that service.
  • A Certificate of Authenticity.

Actual size is 13½" x 8¾" x 5½", including the plinth.
