The two shilling coin, first issued in 1849, represented 1/10th of a pound and was named the Florin – a name last used in England 500 years earlier, in the reign of Edward III. This new coin was well ahead of its time, being intended to herald the introduction of decimal currency. But as we know, this did not happen. The British had to wait for over a century before our currency caught up with the rest of the world.

With such a wealth of history, a set of Florins is a must for every collector, especially when it charts the final years of this fondly remembered coin. This impressive collection features all the key Florins from the last four decades of their mintage.

Some are particularly sought-after by collectors.

  • The very last George V Florin
  • The first and last George VI and Elizabeth II Florins
  • The sought-after 1936 issue – the last one to bear the value “One Florin”
  • The 1937 coin – first to carry the words “Two Shillings”
  • Two and a half troy ounces of silver contained in the earliest fifteen coins in the collection

Virtually every year is here (no coins were issued in 1934 or 1952 and the mintage of the 1932 issue was abnormally low). What’s more, with each coin you will receive a special fact card, bringing the history to life with stories from the year of the coin’s issue.

Each Florin is perfectly protected within a custom-cast metal “halo”, then encapsulated to preserve it for safe viewing. The sturdy wooden display chest perfectly houses the complete collection. It even has a drawer for the fact cards and Certificate of Authenticity. You’ll admire the rich sheen of the wood and the quality of the metal handles. There could not be a better home for your collection.
