Bringing together coins from every year from 1918 to 1967, the extensive Last 50 Years of the Sixpence spans the reigns of three different monarchs – George V, first monarch of the House of Windsor, George VI, who steered the country through the Second World War, and Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch Britain has ever seen. Their portraits grace the obverses of the coins, while on their reverses are five different designs, created by different Royal Mint engravers.
The metal content of the coins in the collection also differs, reflecting the changes made to Britain’s coinage over the years. The earliest two – from 1918 and 1919 – are struck from 92.5% sterling silver. In 1920, the silver content of all British coins was reduced, so the following 27 are struck from 50% silver. The remainder are made from cupro-nickel.
To show these exceptional coins at their best, we have surrounded each one with a zinc-plated washer, creating a series of miniature framed artworks. When gathered together, the complete set is truly impressive! Each coin and washer is housed in a crystal-clear capsule to keep it safe from dust and fingerprints.
The complete collection is housed in a handsome display case featuring a silver-toned lock and key. With a bespoke foam interior and a glass top for easy viewing, this case is the perfect way to protect and display the impressive collection! A Certificate of Authenticity is also included with every collection. Both are at no extra charge.
