25 years ago, the story of Harry Potter took the world by storm. The amazing world of wizardry became a cultural phenomenon and inspired an entire generation of children. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of this children’s classic, the Royal Mint has issued a set of four colour-enhanced 50p commemorative coins in stunning proof quality.
Showcasing stunning artwork from artist Jim Kay based upon the first fully illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, these magical coins feature Harry Potter, the Hogwarts Express steam train, the great headmaster Professor Albus Dumbledore, and the grand building of Hogwarts itself.
Furthermore, each coin also contains a secret – a hidden holographic effect. When you tilt the coin, you’ll see a lightning bolt, reminiscent of Harry's famous scar, but keep going, and – poof! – it changes to the number 25, the number of years since the first of J. K. Rowling’s books was published.
Each coin is minted in 92.5% silver and has been struck to proof quality – the highest calibre of strike in the coin-collecting world. Using special polished dies, the coins have been individually struck at least twice to give them an unparalleled crispness of design. To ensure the silver proof coins will be treasured for years to come, we have sonically sealed them in crystal clear casing like those used by the top coin grading companies, for easy and safe viewing.
You will also receive a specially designed wooden display chest to house the collection, yours at no additional charge. Featuring a glass-top and a silver lock and key, it’s the perfect place to store and organise your collection.
