When Beatrix Potter jotted a few drawings of a mischievous rabbit in a letter to son of her former governess, she could not have imagined that he would become one of the nation’s most beloved children’s characters. In 1902, her first book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, was published and 120 years on, her adorable characters and charming stories continue to enchant children and adults alike.
To celebrate the 120th anniversary of the book’s publication, the Royal Mint released a new 1oz silver coin featuring Peter Rabbit. Struck in 99.9% fine silver, it showcases a brand-new design with delicate colour detailing.

Peter Rabbit has previously featured on 50 pence and £5 coins, but this is the first time that a 1oz 99.9% silver proof coin has been released with his image. For this special 120th anniversary coin, experienced designer Ffion Gwillim drew on one of Beatrix Potter’s original illustrations of Peter Rabbit to create a charming image of the bunny bounding amongst flowers.

This silver coin has been sonically sealed using our ‘Sealed for Good’ technology, with the official Peter Rabbit 120th anniversary logo on the label.

A hand-crafted, glass topped wooden display case is sent with your coin free of charge.
