100 years ago, the Doncaster-built Flying Scotsman first took to the tracks for the newly formed London and North Eastern Railway. The A1 class locomotive would become the first steam locomotive to reach 100mph and it also set a world record for the longest non-stop run by a steam train when it visited Australia in 1989. Now, as the famous locomotive celebrates its 100th anniversary, the Royal Mint has issued this unique tribute.
