Here’s a silver coin with a fascinating history! At the end of the 18th century there was a shortage of Crowns and Half Crowns. To resolve the problem the Bank of England began overstriking captured Spanish 8 reales silver dollars. Produced at the renowned Soho Mint, these dollars were the first silver coins to portray Britannia on the reverse, had a value of 5 shillings, and were all dated 1804 even though they were issued until 1811.This spectacular coin is encapsulated for its protection and mounted on a richly-finished wooden panel within the handsome display chest provided at no extra charge. Limited quantities are available.
