Alfred Bestall designed the cover of the inaugural Rupert annual in 1936, where the little bear from Nutwood appeared in his iconic red and yellow outfit for the very first time. Now the master artisans at Steiff have created a tribute to the Rupert Bear who many of us remember so fondly from our childhoods.
Just as he appeared more than eighty years ago, here’s Rupert in his cheery yellow plaid trousers complete with matching scarf and that bright red jumper. These perfectly complement the warm tones of his golden-brown fur – the same shade as the original illustrations! His sparkling boot-button eyes shine with wonder and his friendly expression has been stitched entirely by hand. He’s fully jointed so you can pose him easily.
Like every Steiff masterpiece, Alfred Bestall’s Rupert Bear is finished with the famous golden ‘button-in-ear’– your guarantee that he’s a genuine limited edition from Steiff.
Not only is he available exclusively from Danbury Mint, but only 1,935 bears can ever be made in honour of the year that Alfred Bestall illustrated his first-ever Rupert story.
