2019 marks 200 years since the birth of Queen Victoria, ruler of Great Britain and Ireland from 1837-1901 and Empress of the world’s largest empire.
Now, this legendary queen has provided inspiration for Steiff’s latest limited-edition collector bear.
Of course, a bear to commemorate Victoria could only be one colour…black. It was famously the only colour she wore after the loss of her beloved Albert in 1861.
Made from genuine mohair, with contrasting grey felt pawpads and hand-stitched features the bear has a regal elegance. Over the years Steiff have created teddy bears in a range of hues – but the colour black is reserved for some of the rarest Steiff bears. Among collectors, these black beauties are in a league of their own.
This fabulous bear also honours one of the greatest achievements of the Victorian era – the introduction of the world’s first-ever postage stamp, the Penny Black. Suspended from the luxurious silver-grey satin bow is a beautiful pendant inspired by the stamp’s iconic design.
Only 1,819 pieces can ever be made for worldwide demand – in honour of the year of Victoria’s birth.
Actual size is 11" (28cm) standing.
