Amidst great fanfare, the “unsinkable” Titanic embarked on her maiden voyage on 10th April 1912. Less than five days later, she collided with an iceberg and sank, taking the lives of over 1,500 passengers and crew with her.
In the weeks that followed, Steiff created 500 black “mourning bears”. Steiff have taken inspiration from this historic bear to create this exclusive, limited edition bear. He’s made from jet-black mohair and with hand-stitched features. His boot button eyes are outlined in red felt to express the tears shed for the victims of the disaster.
What makes this bear extra special is that around his neck is a genuine silver threepence minted in 1912 – the very year of the tragedy. It’s encapsulated in a gold-plated coin holder and suspended from a red leather cord.
This special bear will be issued as a strict limited edition. No more than 1,912 bears will ever be made.
Actual size is 11" (28cm) standing.
