The Steiff company has always been a great innovator. They created the world’s very first teddy bear in 1902 and they’ve been pushing the boundaries of teddy bear design ever since.
This year at the Nuremberg Toy Fair, Steiff announced one of their greatest innovations of the past 70 years…Hansel, the first-ever Steiff hemp bear.
Hemp is one of the world’s oldest materials, dating back almost 10,000 years! But only recently it was discovered that it could be turned into an incredible eco-friendly faux fur. This natural and sustainable plant-based fabric gives Hansel’s fur a beautiful vintage look…and the innovation doesn’t end there!
His pawpads are made from pineapple leaf fibres that have the look and feel of felt – the traditional material Steiff have used for their bear’s pawpads for over a century. He’s stuffed with wood shavings (just like those early Steiff bears) and finished with soulful wooden eyes and a specially-designed brass chest tag featuring an image of Steiff’s first soft toy – the elephant.
Only 1,000 Hansel bears can ever be made, so this is a major collecting opportunity. We have secured a limited number for Danbury Mint collectors. Don’t miss out on the one of the most talked about Steiff bears for years!
Actual size is 14" (36m) standing.
