In May 1943, the Royal Air Force’s Squadron 617 succeeded in an audacious bombing raid to destroy three dams in the Ruhr Valley, forever cementing their place in history as the Dambusters. Celebrate the 75th anniversary of this triumph with a stunning silver coin set minted in 1943!
This is a collection of five 50% silver issues from 1943. It contains both the English and Scottish-type shillings, as well as other iconic silver issues including the silver sixpence, florin and half-crown.
You will also receive a miniature replica of the Air Crew Europe Star, the campaign medal that was awarded to all RAF crews, including the Dambusters squadron, who served during World War Two. It is gold plated for a perfect finish!
These historic silver issues and replica medal are proudly presented in a bespoke presentation case, offered exclusively from Danbury Mint. The top of the case shows the legendary Lancaster bomber set against the Union Jack. The inside lid displays the bomber above one of the dams during the raid.
