Hand-struck about 2,200 years ago, this beautiful silver Tetrobol comes from the ancient Greek city of Histiaea. Most coins like this were worn out or destroyed thousands of years ago. Of the few that remain the majority are guarded in museums or prestigious private collections. But not all. And now, Danbury Mint has secured a very limited quantity for our collectors.
The coin bears two images of the sea nymph Histiaea, the city’s namesake. On the reverse she is seated on a warship’s prow, holding a naval standard – a symbol of the city’s importance as a seaport. Just imagine the merchants, aristocrats or even kings who might have used this coin! Professionally certified by NGC, your coin will arrive sealed in a clear archival holder, with a wooden display box to keep it safe.
