Alexander the Great’s empire stretched from southern Europe as far as North Africa, the Middle East and India. As his empire grew, Alexander stuck coins – including the silver drachm – to fuel the expanding economy. Indeed, the drachm proved so popular that it continued to be struck for more than 250 years after Alexander’s death!
This genuine silver drachm is one such coin. Hand-struck over 2,000 years ago, it bears the name of “Alexander” on the reverse. Alongside the name is an image of the supreme god Zeus, and on the front is the famous hero Heracles, both of whom Alexander claimed to be related to!
Encapsulated in an archival-quality holder and presented in a free wooden display chest, the extraordinary coin is certified in “Choice Fine” or better condition by top coin-grading company NGC. A detailed information booklet is also included.
Display is 4½" x 5¾" x 1¾"
