In 1989 the Royal Mint celebrated the 500th anniversary of the sovereign by issuing a distinctive one-off proof sovereign. Made of 22ct gold, this proof sovereign has been struck using specially-selected blanks and highly-polished dies to give a distinctive mirrored finish.
Both sides of the coin had new designs, influenced by the first-ever sovereign minted during Henry VII’s reign. The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II seated on a throne and holding two sceptres. The reverse depicts a crowned shield of the Royal Arms, set upon a double Tudor Rose. This highly sought-after coin comes encapsulated for its protection and sits within a finely-crafted wooden display, provided at no extra charge.
Display is 5” x 3¾” x 1⅝”.
