The Gurkhas have long been regarded as some of the finest and fiercest soldiers in the world. Respected around the globe for their fearlessness and martial prowess, they have been an integral part of the British Army since 1815.

Forty battalions of Gurkha soldiers served in World War II, in North Africa, Italy and the Far East. They were particularly important in Burma, where they formed part of the British Chindit force. There, they took part in arduous long-range operations behind enemy lines, deep in the brutal northern jungles, where they harassed and confused Japanese troops, destroyed communications and disrupted supply lines.

Now, to honour these fearsome soldiers, Danbury Mint is proud to present…The Gurkha, an exclusive bronzed sculpture of a Gurkha soldier, accompanied by a set of coins from 1943 and a specially commissioned commemorative medallion.
