Minting of American Buffalo nickels ceased a lifetime ago.  Yet the design’s popularity never waned, leading the U.S. Mint to enlarge and restore the original design on a much larger, limited edition silver dollar.Collectors stampeded to claim their American Buffalo Silver Dollars when they were first issued in 2001.  But with a production run officially limited to just 500,000, the coins sold out in only two weeks – the fastest sell-out of any modern U.S. coin programme offered until then. On the 100^th anniversary of the original nickel design and more than 10 years after this silver dollar vanished into private collections, it continues to be one of the most sought-after of all modern silver dollars.
