| Special editions capture the imaginations of car enthusiasts, especially if they are true “factory creations”, and sold in limited numbers or in a narrow geographic location. The 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Twister Special is just such a car.
It was based on Ford’s highly coveted Mach 1, had a series run of only 96 and was sold only through Kansas City area dealerships. It’s a Mustang fan’s dream come true!
Even if you’re a “petrolhead,” you may have never even seen a Twister Special, given its exclusivity and scarcity. The Grabber Orange colour, is carefully hand polished to an impressive sheen. The speed-inspired accessories include chin and rear-deck spoilers, a shaker-scooped bonnet with competition lock-downs, and rear window “sports slats” that can be easily raised. Even the logos and graphics are meticulously reproduced.
Under the bonnet, the Super Cobra Jet V-8 is a work of art. The suspension and undercarriage are made of individual pieces, not a stamped or moulded single-panel. Wood-grained trim abounds, including on the steering wheel, and all instruments are clearly legible. There are great functional features – pivoting sunvisors, tilting seats, and turning front wheels – that make this a museum-quality replica.
This model has everything the original had, done up in 1:24 scale!
